Peace and Quiet at a music festival

It seems like lately some not so great things have happened in my life. Of course it is not the end of the world but these “things” make life harder to deal with, and certainly have me spending a lot more time thinking in the shower. When people say life is precious, an oh so common cliche, well that is because it is true. It is precious, and as humans we come to that realization, we think about it for 20 minutes, maybe even 24 hours, then we get occupied by more fascinating things in our lives and we move on. I can say this thought has been in my head for almost 3 weeks now and has me questioning myself. I am questioning even small things like am I happy with what I am studying? Because I find that incredibly important, Am I happy where I am as a friend? Am I happy with my relationships to the people around me? It is all so heavy and dense, and can really wear one down.

So I kind of want to try something new to see if I can truly lift my spirits back up and feel truly content and ready with where I am at 19 years old.

Being in college is not easy, especially at a small university, and I am not talking about the school work. Every single human is judgemental, and it is just hard sometimes to be the best friend that you envision yourself in. As I have seen relationships change a lot throughout my time, I have really learned that relying on friends is great, but you have to learn how to be your own friend as well. I began going places by myself a lot more frequently, volunteering alone, going out alone, and I have really enjoyed just my own peace and company.

I was asked to cover the Maverick Music Festival this past Saturday in downtown San Antonio. I was going to have to go alone, and navigate the crowds and people all by myself. To be honest I was a bit hesitant at first, but I thought it could be fun, and I would love to take some photos since it had been a while. I ended up spending a few hours meandering downtown, and some at the festival pretending like I was all VIP with my media credentials. I did not really talk to much of anyone while I was there, and I was totally okay with that because I had a great time by myself. So I encourage you, no matter what kind of anxieties you have, because truthfully we all have them, to venture out and really let your mind have some quiet time while doing things you love.

Here are some photos from the festival I want to share:

Henry + The Invisibles (ATX, SATX, NY)

ImageHe was incredible live, I couldn’t help but snap my fingers and move my feet. I have a hard enough time dancing around people I know (sometimes) so I really caught myself by surprise when I was able to do this by myself.

Girl in A Coma (SATX)

The Toadies (San Marcos?)

Fancy snackz

So, school has officially started but due to syllabus days I don’t find a need to do anything but cool stuff. Right, I guess stuff I think is cool. Anywho, my school has an awesome art gallery in the art building. There was this guy who put together a photography exhibit. Some of the photos date back to 1968. They are amazing black and white photos of Mayan civilization and culture. So lots of little people in villages showing off their everyday life, family and things they do.

Because it was the opening reception it was all fancy with catered drinks and nibbles.. That’s a gross word. I mean snackz of course, they had snackz.
They also did this neat thing where you got an iPod when you entered and you listened to the photographer talk about each photo and tell the story!

The photos are on display through February I believe so if you are nearby definitely check it out! Sorry you won’t get snackz or iPod fancy.

–also if you love some man eye candy like nadeen and I do.. Definitely remember to visit art galleries. Apparently they like them too..

Outfit of the Day YAY

I might have mentioned this before but it is REALLY difficult to have an outfit of the day EVERY day. First reason, some days I am lazy, second reason, I may or may not repeat some of these outfits often, third reason, there are not many times I have to grab my camera during the day, find a nice place and set up a self timer.

But it makes it a lot easier when I have guy friends who dress well so that I can just call them to take a few pictures of me and for doing such a favor I include them in our blog! This time it was my friend Benjamin Armistead Conway, he deserves his full name out here in the cyber world. The way we met is pretty funny, but lets just say he now calls me Jackleen.

This is Benjamin Armistead Conway.

Here was my outfit:

I am wearing a pair of tights my mom got me from High Fashion Homes, my nine west boots, my dress is from Forever 21 (i do not shop their anymore, thank goodness ((They have major bad sweatshops)) ), The jacket is from I have no idea where… probably Marshalls, and the headband is my favorite part of the whole outfit!

The headband is new and is from a wonderfully little local vintage shop in San Antonio! This shop is called Montage and it is on the corner of E Grayson and St. Mary’s. It is sooo worth your visit! Not too expensive for vintage, but good quality with a personalized touch by the owner!
(She even made my headband herself!!)

—-have a wonderful week ^.^

Okay, I mentioned a while back that once I finished this disposable camera I would get it developed and post some pictures on the blog. I also found a random role of film that was used but I had NO idea what was on it or when it was from, I really was excited for this mysterious role and to see what was on it. So here are some pictures!

ImageImageI have no idea why that one is upside down… ^^^ its right side up on my computer..

ImageSo one of the frat parties at my school had a thrift store themed party…. I had to go.

ImageImageImageThis was from Ann Marie’s visit!

ImageImageImageImageImageWe love cruising the streets in the afternoons ^.^

ImageImageImage^ This was from the First Friday Pub Crawl (sadly I am not old enough to Pub Crawl) but it was halloween themed!

Image This was from the Animal Collective Concert ( Natalie, Emily, and I )

Now I also found that other roll, to my surprise it was some super old photos that I took of a friend named Alice. We were messing around in Montrose of Houston, and I decided to try double exposure with my film camera, actually ended up triple exposing some of these photos.

Tomorrow be on the look out for a new outfit of the day!
